Societal Challenges

Cross-border Results

Oresund, Kattegatt and Skagerrak are not just broad areas that we hear about in the weather forecast. For us, it is an area where 15 Swedish, Danish and Norwegian regions share land, sea and 9 million people. Together they make up the EU program Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak.

Committed to Solving Pressing Societal Challenges

From 2014 to 2020, we have € 127.6 millions to invest in projects that cross borders to tackle pressing societal challenges – in favor of companies, municipalities, regions, countries and Europe - and above all, for a better world for global citizens.

The investments have now begun to show results. Our projects cross the border and contribute to;

  • improving healthcare,
  • reducing man-made climate impact,
  • strengthen the cross-border labour market,
  • secure the regional competitiveness.

The Results and Work of our Projects are in Line with the Global Goals

Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak invests the money of European tax payers in projects that - in a sustainable way - want to solve different types of societal challenges.

One way of addressing these societal challenges is to employ the UN Global Goals that world leaders agreed on. Based on the Global Goals, Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak has clarified the projects’ goals and expected results. The outcome: on average, the results of the projects are in line 4 with the UN Global Goals.

Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-being

Our projects cross the border for improved heathcare by amongs other creating new solutions and better treatments. The Projects work on new and innovative solutions that can be applied both at the hospital and at home - for example via App.

Goal 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy

We cross the border to reduce man-made climate impact. Many of our projects work on engery effiecency and reducing emissions.

Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth

We cross the border to strengthen the cross-border labour market, to avoid unemployment and to ensure that the labour market does not close at the border.

Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities

We cross the border to be able to travel now and in the future. Our projects work on creating sustainable transport and new transport solutions.

Results and the Global Goals

How many patients have received better treatment? How many start-ups have been helped to grow? With a particular focus on the 4 Global Goals that the programme employs, we ask our projects to answer these questions - and many more - twice a year. The infographics are so far only avaliable in Danish and Swedish.
